Shorts’ Leash To Further Shorten? While our hedge fund contacts spoke optimistically only days ago about the prospect of the Securities and Exchange Commission lifting its restrictions on short sales of 19 targeted financial companies, it seems that talks over the weekend between the agency and the Managed Funds Association took a turn for the worse, leaving the door open not only to an extension of the so-called “emergency period” but also the stocks it covers.
